What can we say? This man was a legend, on and off the track.
This is my tribute to a great driver, and an even greater
man. I hadn't been watching F1 that long when he died. On
May 1, 1994, he crashed while he was leading the 1994 San
Marino Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in
Italy. The crash took place the day after fellow driver, Roland
Ratzenberger was killed at the same track.
For my tribute to Senna, I chose to make the picture look
black and white out of respect. However, all the dots are
coloured, it is only an illusion that the picture is black
and white. This was the first time I had attempted this, and
it was a challenge, however I was pleased with the results.
Choosing the image was difficult. I couldn't draw from the
television as usual, and in this case I could not watch endless
amounts of footage to catch his expressions as I had with
the other drivers. I chose this image as all the other portraits
are looking directly at the viewer, in this one Senna is not,
again out of respect.
I hope I have done him proud.
