KIMI RAIKKONEN

Like with Jenson, the aim of this was to make a portrait of Kimi out of the Kimi articles from my F1 Racing magazines that I had accumulated over 12 years. In effect, a readable portrait.

Being a McLaren fan, I have supported Kimi for many years, and when he crossed over to the dark side (Ferrari) I was devastated, but I didn't blame him. For years he had out performed his car, we (and by that I mean me and Uncle Ron) had not given him a car that he deserved. I refused however, point blank, to wear a Red hat, and so secretly supported Kimi from afar. Athough by the end of 2007, when Alonso and then rookie Hamilton were being naughty at McLaren, and since "Spygate" meant we couldn't win the constructors title, I wanted Kimi to win. Although it was bitter sweet as he won in the enemy car, he so deserved it. I still believe that if Alonso and Hamilton hadn't been behaving like a pair of toddlers, one of them would and should have won that title. But Alonso won one championship that Kimi should have, if he hadn't had such an unreliable car. What goes around comes around.

On hearing that Kimi was being "let go" by Ferrari at the end of last season, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to the Kimster. I am praying that he returns to the Mothership and doesn't decide that he has done the whole F1 thing, got the title he wanted, and disappear into Rallying forever. F1 would be a poorer sport for losing Kimi.

For me, Kimi was the best character on the grid. It is like he should have been a driver in the 70's. I love the way he just doesn't give a rats ass, he likes to turn up, drive the car and then go back to drinking his vodka, or participating in some snowy sport in Finland. He doesn't care what anyone thinks, his does things totally his own way, usually causing despair to whomever his team boss may be. He is cool, he is fast, and hands down I think he has the most talent. Simply, he is just fab. Some drivers have the skills but are as interesting as watching paint dry. Some have great personalities, but lack the special extra something on the track. For me, Kimi has a good balance of both. I hope I get to add more to this picture, and that he isn't gone forever.
