Why Simon Cowell?
In 2008 I stuck both my other dot pictures, over 2,000 hours sticking
dots in 9 months, with just a few weeks off in the summer. That is
a lot of time at home with the T.V. for company. Before the Dot Life,
I barely knew who Simon Cowell was because I never watched T.V. (only
that my friend had a crush on him!).
Sticking In Seine and Lewis meant that I had the television
on a lot to keep me company. No matter what day it was or what
time of year it was, there was one constant: Mr Cowell. He was everywhere!
Between American Idol, Britain's Got Talent and The
X Factor, plus all their extra side shows, I felt like he was
keeping me company whilst I was working. Now, I am not saying that
they are my favourite T.V. shows, but how many times can you watch
your box sets and F1 re-runs? For instance, I re-watched all 15 series
of E.R, but that only took about a month, and I was running out of
T.V. fast (that is my excuse anyway!).
I saw more of Simon Cowell that year than I did my own friends and
family, and I began to like watching him. I love his cutting remarks
to the talent-challenged contestants, I love the faces he pulls, but
what I love the most, is that you never know what is going to come
out of his mouth. I love the little smirk he gets, and the little
glint in his eye when he has found someone with a true talent, so
that is why Simon. I saw so much of him I felt like we were old friends,
he certainly kept me entertained. I needed to do my next picture,
and I wanted it to be another portrait, to make advances in my technique
after Lewis. I was not totally happy with the Lewis Portrait,
I felt I could make more of the optical mixing, and blend the highlights
better.
Dot Simon now resides with Jackie St Claire in London.
