CONFETTI ART (DOT ART)

What makes a girl stick millions of dots to canvass?

My obsession for sticking dots to make giant pictutres (and it is an obsession!) came about when studying for my dissertation. Having suffered with O.C.D and Insomnia for most of my life i finally found something i loved doing when all the normal people in the world are asleep. I love Art that looks like it took hard work to achieve it, i love things that make people look twice, i love things that are made up of tiny detail to a whole image, and i love colour. All of these elements (i hope) are visable in my work.

Inspired by Chuck close and Georges Seurat i developed a love for creating work that uses Optical mixing to give the viewer more than one expereince when viewing the peices. Optical mixing in basic terms is where you can see timy detail close up adn as you step back your brain makes your eyes mix the colours together to viewthe whole image.

I spend ususally once involved in a picture 12-17 hours a day sticking and re-arranging dots. By the end of 2008 i had dislocated my thumb 13 times, which is why it took me until March 09 to pick up my tweezers again.

Every time i have started a new picture i have tried to achieve something new. The first one In Seine was A complete learning experience on what not to do! with the Lewis Hamiltion portrait i tried to get the Optical mixing better, by using lots of different colours close up, bright colours, that only blend together when you walk backwards. With Simon Cowell i tried to get the blending better, almost to a point where the image starts to dissapear in sections as you get upclose. I have to feel like i am improving/experimenting with the technique each picture, when i finally make a picture i am totally happy with i will stop. Although since i am a perfectionist i feel that day will probably never come, so i fear i willbe sticking dots for the rest of my life.

So far i have stuck over 1 million dots over 3 pictures in 14 months. The first two have recieved much press interest both National, and internationally including appearing on the BBC news and on news websites all over the world. To view some of this coverage please go to my Links.

I have Also recieved a certificate from the Guiness Book Of Records for my Piece In Seine. To see this please go to My world Record.
